Hello all,

A lot of you have emailed with the most amazing ideas for feature updates and we’ve considered them all, unfortunately we have decided to discontinue the development on Cram at this time.

SimpleLeap Software will continue to have new apps developed in the future, but Cram will no longer be sold and updated.

We really wanted to do some special things with Cram and were going to have Cram help students convert their class notes into flash cards and multiple choice tests. Sadly, our time, funding, and interest were limited in making Cram what it should be.

Cram will no longer be sold on both the iPhone and the Mac, but of course supported. We will continue support, including access to the Cram test portal for the next three (3) months.

All tests that you want to access must be moved to your device for future access.

Cram was our first app and was developed on the Blackberry initially in 2008. We have a special place in our hearts for the app and especially the users of the app. We will be pushing ourselves to make bigger and better apps in the future and we hope you guys stay along for the ride.

Thanks so much for Crammers for everything.

UPDATE: Need some Cram iPhone and Cram for Mac alternatives, check here for other study apps.

These celebrities actually went to college before they were big. See which celebrities chose which major.

Even though you see celebrities on the big screen, and you probably assume that’s all that they do, a lot of them have actually been to college. Many of them also graduated, although they might not have taken classes that would interest everyone.

There are some odd and unique college majors available today, and if you want to have something in common with a celebrity you can get a degree in one of those majors. Just make sure that it’s something you really want to do with your life.

There’s no point in getting a degree you aren’t going to be using just to say that you’ve gotten a degree in a particular discipline. No matter what you decide to do with your life, here are 7 celebrity majors that you can think about when you’re deciding what you want to do with your life.

1. Theater Arts was the major chosen by Kourtney Kardashian. While she doesn’t act on stage, that degree probably does help her on her “reality” show.

2. Art History is Gwenyth Paltrow’s degree. This is by far one of the most unlikely degrees for a celebrity to have. Where (and why) would she ever use it?

3. Psychology was the major of choice for Natalie Portman. This could be a great major for someone who acts. Playing characters, getting inside their heads, and helping them interact with other characters is a great psychological experiment.

4. Chemistry? That one belongs to Jennifer Garner. This is seriously unlikely. Who would have thought?

5. An English degree was just right for James Franco. This degree makes some sense. He does spend a lot of time with the English language when it comes to learning lines, etc.

6. A major in English was also the choice of Jon Hamm. English seems to be a popular choice. It’s one of the less-specific majors, which could be why more people choose it.

7. Here’s one that makes more sense – Lady Gaga was a Music major. This is probably the only one of the list where the person is using the degree that he or she obtained. Would she need a degree to do what she does? Of course not – but at least it’s in a related field.

There you have it. Some of those majors fit in well with what the person is doing now. They were all valuable degrees, but they really weren’t designed to set the person up for what he or she is doing at the moment. Lady Gaga’s degree in music is probably the closest match, although it’s unlikely that she studied the kind of music she’s currently making.

CONCLUSION
English and Theater Arts make sense, too, but the others are really unrelated. Since it’s relatively unlikely that you’ll end up on TV or as a famous singer, it might be better if you chose a major that you really wanted to make a career out of. That way, you can do a job you love for the rest of your life. If you find yourself famous instead, you’ll always have your degree to fall back on when the movie offers dry up.

Discover some cool ways to trick your kids into studying.

Parents, we all know that getting our children to study can be very difficult especially since there has been a boom in technology! Our kids are becoming less interested in homework assignments, studying for tests, and even being organized. Below are five cool ways to get your child to study!

1) Create a board game

When you create a game of a particular theme, children will be participating in interactive learning. Interactive learning is essential to the way children learn for the reason that the subject becomes hands on. You can create games by using flash cards, cardboard, figurines, pasta shells, etc… It’s ok to become creative, even have your child help you. What will also make it fun is having a reward at the end: suggest not doing a chore or having ice cream for dessert!

2) Buy unique organizing tools

This may sound irrelevant however, appealing organizing utensils could help boosts a child’s confidence and energy to study. To have these ‘cool’ tools may provide the motivation to study because your child will feel more prepared for any challenging subject. Being organized is also a good habit for children to obtain for their future. Having cool markers, pencils, notebooks, sticky pads, sticky tabs, etc… is a great start!

3) Quiz your child

This method is really simple. Find interesting facts that can be related to the subjects that your child is learning. Do a little research and while you and your child, or just your child, are doing chores – throw out some questions here and there! It will be fun! You could even use the quiz mode on their iPod in study app Cram.

4) Find documentaries

There are plenty of documentaries online, at a store, or at the library. Documentaries are very educational and it could be seen as ‘watching a movie’ so, grab a cool documentary, popcorn and have a movie night! This is very interactive; you and your child will be able to bond while getting educated.

5) Use online resources

The World Wide Web is a very resourceful place. You can find different websites that provide tests, games, video clips, and print-outs which is another fun way of studying.

Being involved with your child’s education can help him or her achieve higher goals. We all know it’s hard to gain that motivation but different little methods, such as the ones stated above, can be very useful. These study tips can help you and your child bond in a student-parent relationship. I’m sure your child would feel more confident when studying for a test by using these tips!

Learn which 8 things students shouldn't buy for school to save money.

Image provided by: OregonState.edu

When you think of college expenses, you probably think of food, rent, loans, clothing and so much more. Man, does it add up fast! Now, when I was in college, I saw so many people make the mistake of purchasing things that they shouldn’t have purchased in the first place.

I wanted to give you eight items that you probably are considering buying, but shouldn’t! By avoiding some of these items, you should be able to save a few hundred bucks.

#1 New textbooks: I highly recommend that you purchase your textbooks used. NEVER purchase your items in the bookstore. Instead, use sites online such as Amazon, Half and more.

#2 A car: If you’re going to live on campus, don’t purchase a car. You will find that you can take the bus, ride your bike, or even hitch a ride with your friends. Now, if you’re going to live at home during college, then you will need a car.

#3 New clothing: Sure, you may want to make a fashion statement, but is it necessary to purchase $80 jeans? Save that money, and apply it toward your tuition. You can buy all the nice things when you get a good job in the future.

#4 High-end phone: I saw so many college kids walking around with an iPhone, and more. While it’s great to have a phone like this, consider getting an iPod Touch instead, and connect via WiFi if you really want the apps like the flash card iPod touch app Cram. This way, your cell phone bill won’t be $100+ a month.

#5 Software in store: Don’t go to your local Best Buy, and purchase software at full price. Instead, highly consider looking for freeware versions, or consider getting the student versions in your local bookstore.

#6 High end laptop: You may want to consider just bringing a lower end laptop to your school. This way, if it was to get stolen, you wouldn’t have to worry as much. In college, any laptop will do, especially if you’re using it for word processing, and more.

#7 A printer: There’s really no need for a printer in college. You will find that as long as you’re a student at the college, you should be able to print for free in your library.

#8 Your meal plan: Carefully look at your meal plan, and crunch the numbers. You may find that 9 times out of 10, it’s going to be cheaper to go to the grocery store, and purchase your food, rather than get junk at the cafe.

When it comes down to college, look at your expenses and really ask yourself if you need the item, or not. When you do this, you’re going to find that you can not only save a lot of money, but avoid purchasing items that won’t be used that often in school.

This post was written by Elizabeth Cutten. You can find more of her work at FindSecuredCards, a secured credit card / getting out of debt blog.

Most iPhone users realize their phone can be used for more than just making calls and sending text messages. However, lots of people don’t recognize how it can be used as an education tool to boost their grades, help them relax after a hard day’s work, be successful at work, and even keep up with their busy social lives.

Cram is an excellent app that lets students create flashcards, practice with multiple-choice tests, and write their own quizzes — all from their iPhone screen! No need to shuffle through index cards or loose-leaf paper, this high-tech way of studying is the way to go.

Of course, students can also access the Internet, read emails from their teachers, crunch numbers, look up words, create a class schedule with deadline reminders, write notes to themselves, store documents, and even read e-books from their iPhones.

Kick Back And Relax

Students can unwind after a long day at school with music, videos, and even TV shows on their iPhones. They can also find restaurants and movies so they can hit the town, post to their blogs, and even unwind with an exercise app. But, at the end of the day there’s noting quite like a game of Pac-Man.

Succeed At Work

An iPhone makes it possible for students to stay in touch with their bosses, keep track of their schedule, and even set an alarm so they are never late for another shift. One way to really stand out on the job is to stay organized, and an iPhone can help students become organization gurus.

Stay Social

Even though students are extremely busy with classes, most find a way to fit in a social life. Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Skype, picture-taking, phone calls, and texting are all ways the iPhone helps students stay up to date on the social scene.

In short, with apps like Cram, a student’s life can be simplified and, believe it or not, school can actually be fun.

This was a guest post. We will have more like these to come in the future as Patrick and I aren’t experts on everything like we want to believe, lol.My Colleges and Careers is a great resource for students looking for help in preparing for school, finding a program, and starting their career.

New version of Cram now available with up-to-date user-interface.

Hello Guys and Gals,

Just wanted to inform you that a newer minor update of Cram is now available. This update fixes an issue some of you guys may have experienced if you’re dealing with large amounts of data. One of our awesome users brought this to our attention, so we’d like to thank Michael for helping us out!

We’ve also updated the main user-interface of Cram which directly addresses this issue, as the NSCollectionView used before didn’t quite fit the bill (which I’ll explain in a future post). This new view offers more information than before so we hope you like it!

It’s been a bit quiet here, but that doesn’t mean the ball hasn’t been rolling! As we mentioned before, our blog install had to be wiped, so we decided to take this time to start fresh, with a new blog theme, and our blog posts.

What we’re working on

As far as Cram, we are actively narrowing down and developing features from the many wonderful suggestions from our users. This includes both Cram for Mac and Cram for iPhone. For our college-aged readers don’t forget to check out our Flashcard Scholarship where you can win some cash to pay for books, tuition, etc.

New Apps! We’re excited about this too. First to the plate is a new Mac app we’ve been developing over the past few months. We’re not releasing any hints yet, but be on the lookout here for blurbs, screenshots, video and more regarding this new app. We’ll also be accepting beta testers for this as well, so if you’re interested in trying out fresh new software that none of your friends have yet to see, then also be on the lookout! But that’s not all! We’re also working on a new iPhone/iPad app that should be released after the mentioned Mac app above. Just like the other one, no hints or anything quite yet, but we hope most of our customers will find it handy.

The Blog

We hope to write more on our blog, and also let our readers in on some of the stuff we do here at SimpleLeap behind the scenes. This may also include some developer-related posts, iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad/Mac how-tos, SimpleLeap announcements, and more. But we also would like your feedback on what you’d like for us to talk about here. Just leave a comment or email us and let us know what would interest you here.
