2. Swipe all way to the left to view to the first screen. It’s the screen before the first page showing your apps.

3. Tap the left icon (the grey button with the lock button) to lock/unlock portrait mode.

Now that was simple and something that I am super thankful Apple included in the iOS 4 update. Unfortunately, this will only contribute to my late night iPhone browsing habit.

Gas is expensive. There is no way of avoiding high fuel prices but finding the best price in your neighborhood is easy with the Gas Buddy iPhone app. Just like GasBuddy.com, this app lets you find the cheapest fuel prices wherever you happen to be driving in North America.

Consumer Reports Mobile – FREE

Anyone on the internet can recommend a product or a store but this Consumer Reports app will help you make informed decisions.

It features product reviews from real people on things that you purchase all the time: electronics, appliances, exercise equipment etc.

You’ll also find killer tips for finding great deals, informative blog posts, and video reports on lots of products.

Drink Specials – FREE

If you’re a tea drinker then this one might not be very useful for you. For anyone that likes the odd drink, you’ll save a bundle with Drink Specials.

This app will help you navigate your way to drink specials and happy hours at more than 3000 bars and pubs in more than 200 major cities. An older version of this app cost $1.99 but now they’re offering it for free.

Pennies – $2.99

A big part of saving money is budgeting. With the Pennies app, you plug in your monthly budget and the application will track your spending habits for the entire month.

It also has a gas-tank like feature that shows your funds draining from your bank account. Some people are always wondering where their money goes each month… Pennies will tell you.

Yard Sale Mapper – FREE

This is a great free app that uses Craigslist to find all the nearby garage sales in your neighborhood. It maps them out for you so that you can easily go from garage sale to garage sale with out getting lost.

Half of the battle with garage sales is getting there early enough to find the best stuff and Yard Sale Mapper will do the trick.

Those are just a few of the many great apps that will help you save money and find great deals.

Well this is commonly referred to as taking screenshot or screen capture and there are a few easy ways to do this on your Mac. There are the following shortcuts:

Shortcuts for Screen Captures:

• Command+Shift+3 – Takes a screen capture of your entire screen. Saves screen capture as file to your desktop automatically.
• Command+Shift+4 – Gives you a crosshair cursor so you can choose which area of the screen you want to capture. Saves screen capture as file (.png) to your desktop automatically.
• Command+Shift+4 (then press spacebar) - To capture a specific application window
• Control+Command+Shift+3 (or 4) – Copies the capture into your Clipboard memory, so you can paste it anywhere you want.

  After you are done taking the screen capture it will automatically stop or you can press Press Esc to cancel.

  Apple Screen Capture App:

  

  There is also a little unknown app on your Mac called, Grab (just search on Mac with Spotlight for it or Navigate to your Mac Utilities folder). Grab is an app on your Mac that also enables you to capture screenshots, but you get a few more options. One option in particular is one that allows you to time your screenshot. Grab performs a countdown to ten seconds to give you time to arrange that “perfect” screen shot. This would be best used if you are navigating to a particular website/screen that has some sort of result that requires an action by the user to be activated (i.e. fireworks upon click of a particular button on their website).

  Grab also has other options that you can find by just playing around with the app.

  OMG the creative entries made this harder than I thought. I received range from what became the typical do thirty things to destroy flashcards from everything to music videos. These entries were amazing, I can’t wait until next year, we may need more than just one winner.

  First I would like to take time to appreciate and mention the winner in my heart. The honarable mention, this creative entry was not selected as a winner simply because of going over time in their video, which makes me question the time limits for next year’s Flashcard Scholarship. I totally wanted to go against the rules just for this video, but it wouldn’t have been fair…sigh!

  I stumbled across an app that I realized I need, because I always fall victim to the “+” sign or green button attack from the Safari browser. You know, the thing that happens when you click the “+” or green button in the top left corner of Safari to expand the window and it simply does something else – well yea I get duped everytime.

  Now although I’ve received a great explanation what exactly the “+” sign does in Safari (and any other program), I never remember and it annoys me to high heck when I don’t get what I’m expecting (one of my VERY SMALL pet peeves with my Mac.)

  Anyhow, Divvy seems to resolve this with simple window management and I love it! Divvy is from a small software group like ourselves and it’s super quick and simple to use. Just open the Divvy window and over the grid select how large you want your window and it will do it. Quick, smooth, EXPECTED results for your windows for everyone…YEA!

  So anyway, check Divvy out for yourself and let me know how you like it.

  I’m pretty sure that I’m not the only one that thinks the iPhone notes font is pretty ugly unattractive. So it was so fantastic when I accidentally figured out how to change the font of my iPhone notes. Let me share so you too can enjoy the sweet sights of a pretty note-taking font.

  1.Open the Notes App.
  2.Now Create a new note and type a few words.
  
  3.While the keyboard is still showing, locate the globe icon near the spacebar.
  4.Now press the button located on the right of your screen, right below the backspace button.
  
  5.Upon pressing this button, you should have immediately seen the difference in font on your screen.
  
  6.Now just press the globe icon again to return to the English font of the notes app and VIOLA! A pretty Arial font for all of your notes.
  

  Unfortunately, this rule is not applied to each note after than so these quick steps have to be performed for each new note you draft.

  The font changes do remain when you close the notes and the app within the particular note you changed the font.

  Well hey, at least now you have pretty notes in a great font!

  If you don’t see the globe option, try this:
  Here are the steps to fix that:

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Tap “Keyboard”.
  3. Tap “International Keyboard”.
  4. Tap “Chinese Simplified”.
  5. Tap “Pinyin”.

  Then follow the steps below. Let me know if this works!
