5 Ways to Get Rid of Your Old iPhone for an iPhone 4

So we’ve seen all the news about the new iPhone 4 and we’ve quite frankly gotten excited enough to prepare for our plunge into enjoyment of the new iPhone 4. But NOT SO FAST…you have an iPhone that you probably are going to want to get rid of before you help Apple’s stock shares grow even more.
I have five ways you can get rid of your iPhone just in time for June 24th and on the path to enjoying your new iPhone 4.
#1 – Trade it In

Not only are there shops around your city where you could possibly turn your iPhone in for a little cash, but there are tons more online that make the process painless and easy.
Services like Gazelle.com or YouRenew.com make upgrading to the iPhone 4 by selling your current iPhone simple with an easy online process.
While you are there and shipping off your old iPhone anyway, look and see if you have any other old phones or gadgets to trade in, this saves on time, the shipping cost (even though they cover this), and the gas it takes to get your old gadgets there.
#2 – Sell It

This suggestion may seem like a no brainer, but sometimes finding someone to purchase the “outgoing” technology (all of the iPhones are FAR from outgoing) can be difficult since everyone wants the new ‘IT’ thing and quite frankly that’s exactly what the new iPhone 4 is.
So apparently the issue now is gaining a broader audience for the sale of your old iPhone and there are plenty sites that can help you with that.
My first suggestion would be sites like the tried and sometimes true, eBay. Also don’t forget Craiglist.org, Sell.com, and etc. I sometimes find it difficult to suggest Craiglist.org because it’s the only website that ‘kills people monthly’ (funny and not-so all at the same time).
#3 – Recycle It

There is a very strong case out there for recycling your old electronics and without going into it, it’s better than simply adding it into a landfill. That’s where electronic recycling programs come in.
To find a program near you just visit, Earth 911 , enter your zip code and exactly what you are recycling and it will find out where to take your old iPhone in a jiffy.
#4 – Trade for It

That’s right, it’s just like the old school-day trades in the lunch room when you bartered your PB&J for the chips and high-fructose corn syrup laden fruit punch and brownies of a schoolmate.
So as you may figure there are sites made just for the kindergartner in all of us like TradeStuff.com, ZunaFish.com, and Trade Forum @ MacObserver. Use these sites to trade that commodity of an iPhone you have for something you’ve been thinking about purchasing anyway. I think this is the fun way to get rid of your iPhone personally, now you just have to dig out your ‘Want’ list and start trading.
Just imagine trading your old iPhone for perhaps a cool antique, weekend house rental, or another gadget you’ve been eying.
#5 – Give it away locally with Freecycle

If you don’t feel like going through the chore of trading in your iPhone or selling it, you always have the option of giving it away as a freebie. What better feeling to share something you have no use for than giving it away to someone who does and Freecycle is perfect for this.
All you have to do is sign up into your local Freecycle group, post that you are giving away an iPhone, and someone will email you to make arrangements for pickup. It’s that simple.
Either way you choose, the way you may not want to get rid of your iPhone is to simply through it away. iPhone’s and other mobile devices contain not only harmful things that pollute our water system, but also contain rare metals that I’m surprised the industry is still using, but that’s another story.
If you have any ideas on getting rid of your old iPhone, let us know so we can all camp out and get our new iPhone 4!

Donate it to a teacher (like me) who can use it with students for learning. I can use the apps through wifi as a classroom tool.
Contact me at Twitter account (rrmurry).
Oh goodness! Why didn't I think of that. What a good suggestion, I guess that would also mean donate it to a student who may need it to help them study as well.
That's a cool suggestion.
Give it to my daughter as a free upgrade for her.
LOL! That's cute. We don't have any to give away, but I bet if you go to one of those trade sites or FreeCycle as mentioned above, someone will have one to offer for your daughter.
Good luck to finding one! There will definitely be plenty available soon.
You forgot the obvious. An iPhone without an AT&T contract is an iPod touch with a camera. What's wrong with that? Keep it or pass it on to a family member.
You are absolutely correct! But I know for some they are very excited about the new functionality that will be available on the new iPhone 4 and the new apps that will be available just for the iPhone 4.
But I agree, if you want to just keep it – but this may be kind of hoarding the goods from others they may want/need your old iPhone. All you need is one right, lol.
And you can use it to call 911 without any cell plan.
Ya, you could do that too!
They are very easy to sell on either Ebay or Craigslist. You can recoup the cost of the new phone. Seems the only logical choice to me.

Both eBay and Craigslist are mentioned. But ya, I could imagine them moving fast.
